Last week has been a frightening week for me, as I know it has been for many Americans. For the first time in my 68 years, I witnessed the First Amendment placed in real jeopardy when the Jimmy Kimmel Live! show was abruptly pulled off the air, amid threats by the federal government.
While I applaud ABC and Disney for restoring the show on Sept. 23, I was deeply troubled to learn that Nexstar and Sinclair—the broadcast owners of KOIN and KATU (and if a proposed merger goes forward, KGW will also be Nexstar owned) refused to air it on their Portland television stations, although they have both since reversed themselves.
I urge Oregon’s elected leaders, as well as Portland city officials, to send a strong message to the Federal Communications Commission and others that your constituents wi
