LANSING — Michigan's personal income tax returns would mirror federal tax cuts for tips, overtime pay and Social Security, under the budget deal announced Sept. 25 by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and legislative leaders .
House Speaker Matt Hall, R-Richland Township, had described the tax cuts — which replicate campaign promises President Donald Trump made in 2024 and are included in the federal "One Big Beautiful Bill" — as "red lines" that must be included in any budget deal, during a Sept. 12 interview with the Detroit Free Press.
