In July 2024, the New York Knicks’ star player, Jalen Brunson, took a massive pay cut in his contract to give the team roster flexibility. His teammate Mikal Bridges followed in his footsteps last month. ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Bridges signed a four-year, $150 million contract extension with the franchise. This deal reflects a $6 million discount from the maximum $156 million he could receive.

These contributions to the team will not go unrecognised as the new head coach, Mike Brown, Praises Brunson and Bridges for sacrificing money to prove commitment to the team.
