Out of context, Alabama football beating Georgia wouldn’t be shocking. UGA head coach Kirby Smart is 1-7 against the Crimson Tide since leaving his old post as UA’s defensive coordinator, and Alabama was coming off two consecutive wins.

But after what happened in Week 1 against Florida State, Saturday’s 24-21 win over the fifth-ranked team in the nation came as a surprise to many. One of the Bulldogs was even asked about the disconnect between the two results after the game.

“I don’t see how that game has anything to do with this one,” Georgia defensive back Daylen Everette told reporters. “It just happened. We played them. We didn’t play how we should have.”
