GENESEE COUNTY, MI – A gunman who opened fire at a church Sunday morning is “down” and the entire building is on fire, according to Genesee County’s top law enforcement officer.

An active shooter was reported at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4285 McCandlish Road, in Grand Blanc.

Police say there are multiple victims, though an exact figure has yet to be released.

Sheriff Chris Swanson provided a brief update in a minute-long video shared on social media. The sheriff said his department is working with federal, state and local authorities during the investigation.

Swanson said the shooter is down and “the entire church is on fire.”
