PORT ARTHUR, Texas — The City of Port Arthur has issued a boil water notice for residents south of Highway 73 as the city continues repairs to a major water line that began Saturday night.
City officials shut down a 36-inch main water line at 10 p.m. Saturday to repair a leak affecting the southern portion of the city. The water main leak caused the system pressure for all areas south of Highway 73 to fall below the state-required 20 pounds per square inch.
The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the city's public water system to notify affected customers to boil all water before consumption. This includes water used for washing hands and face, brushing teeth and drinking.
