The University of Arkansas has fired head football coach Sam Pittman following Saturday's (September 27) blowout loss to Notre Dame.

Offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino , who had previously served as the Razorbacks ' head coach from 2008 to 2011, will take over as the interim.

“I want to thank Coach Pittman for his service and dedication to the University of Arkansas throughout his time as head coach,” said Arkansas Vice Chancellor and Director Hunter Yurachek in a statement shared by the athletic program . “From Day 1, you could tell how much this opportunity meant to him.
