RALEIGH, N.C. (WTVD) -- An effort is underway to preserve a historic home in Wake County.
Built in the 1900s, the Grigsby house, located on Grigsby Avenue in Holly Springs, was once home to Dr. George Grigsby and his wife Gladys.
The couple rose to prominence during the Segregation Era.
Gladys attended Durham State Normal School, now known as NC Central University, and Shaw University. She worked as a public school teacher, while George served as an administrator and professor.
The home is now at risk of demolition. An online fundraiser has been launched to save it.
According to the organizer, the house is currently listed at $595,000 and repairs will require an additional $205,000. If the house is sold or demolished before funds are raised, all donations will be returned in full.
