Eric Adams is dropping out of the mayoral race.
The 65-year-old Mayor of New York City announced he will no longer seek reelection for a second term, just five weeks before the election on Sunday (September 28).
“Who would have thought that a kid from South Jamaica, Queens, growing up with learning disabilities could one day become the mayor of the greatest city in the world?” he asked in a video announcing his decision.
“When I was elected to serve as your mayor, I said these words: ‘This campaign was never about me. It was about the people of this city.’”
He did not endorse a candidate amid the top picks, Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani and former Governor Andrew Cuomo .
Only in America. Only in New York.
