JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) - A Rock County nonprofit is hoping to fill a gap in the community by opening a first-of-its kind sober living home for women and their children.
For Rita Key, this mission is personal.
“I was in my 40s and I tried crack cocaine,” Key said. “I became addicted. I looked everywhere for help. Nobody took my insurance or the copay was too high. It was just difficult.”
Now sober, Key is the founder of Rock County Restorations, a faith-based substance abuse recovery center in Beloit. The center connects people with treatment options, sober living homes and offers support groups. However, in helping others, Key noticed one resource was missing.
“Currently, in our region, there is no place for a women to go for sober living that will take kids,” Key said.
