GENESEE COUNTY, MI – A conservation officer “acted without hesitation” the moment he engaged with a gunman during a church service, an attorney for law enforcement said.

Multiple people were shot, including two who have died, Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township.

The incident unfolded around 10:25 a.m. when a 40-year-old Burton man rammed his vehicle into the building before shooting inside. Police say hundreds were in the church.

Authorities said two officers — one from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and one from Grand Blanc Township — responded to the incident and engaged with the suspect in an exchange of gunfire.

The Burton man, who has not been identified, died in a shootout.
