WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) - Kansas Senator Jerry Moran hosted his annual Service Academy Day at Wichita State University on Saturday for young people interested in pursuing a career in the armed forces.

Each year, Moran appoints a selection board to interview students who want to attend a U.S. service academy. Moran says preparing the next generation of military leaders is one of his top priorities.

"We need a strong nation; we need to be pulling together. We need to make sure we have young men and women who are interested in serving our country in the military," Moran said. "We also just need good people and good leaders and people who are good citizens, so this is an opportunity for us to try to reward those young people across Kansas who want a shot at an academy."
