BANGOR -- An annual event dedicated towards helping a local hospital's critical program was held in Bangor on Sunday, September 28.

Broadway Park in Bangor was the home of the 7th annual St. Joe's Commit to Community event. Which featured tables run by local groups and organizations, a 5k walk, a 5k run, a 10k run, and a kids obstacle course.

All of the proceeds go towards the hospital's Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner program, also known as the SAFE program, which provides support to victims of violence and abuse.

"A SAFE Nurse is a health care provider that's received specialized training to care for someone whose been affected by violence that seeks health care after that experience," said Danielle Coutu, a SAFE Nurse at St. Joseph Hospital.
