BATH -- It's an ancient maritime ritual to christen a vessel before it heads to sea. It instills good fortune and protection for both the ship and those on board it. That ancient tradition could be found in Bath this weekend.

The United States Navy's newest guided missile destroyer was christened at General Dynamics Bath Iron Works' shipyard on Saturday, September 27.

The USS Louis H. Wilson (DDG 126) is the first flight-three destroyer built by BIW.

According to BIW, the ship is named after General Louis H. Wilson Jr, a Medal of Honor recipient and former commandant of the Marine Corps.
