KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - I-275 near downtown Knoxville has reopened ahead of schedule as Tennessee Department of Transportation crews finished the final phase of a bridge replacement project.

The interstate closed at 7 p.m. on Friday and was set to remain closed until 6 a.m. Monday, but TDOT’s Mark Nagi said just before 5 p.m. on Sunday that I-275 North and South had reopened.
The project had been ongoing for months, starting with I-275 being closed for two weekends in July. Crews used Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) techniques, TDOT said, to replace the bridge. Those techniques are aimed at getting the bridge fixed up quickly and cheaply.
