FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - A Fort Wayne TinCaps pitcher recently received recognition from the team’s Major League Baseball (MLB) affiliate.

Garrett Hawkins was named the San Diego Padres’ Minor League Baseball (MiLB) Pitcher of the Year.

Making his first appearance in 702 days following Tommy John Surgery, Hawkins returned to the mound on April 5 to play the 2025 season with the TinCaps.

By the end of the 2025 season, No. 18 Padres prospect tied for second in the Midwest League in wins (8), sixth in saves (8), and ranked 10th in strikeouts amongst relievers (60).

Hawkins also ranked first in batting average against (.116) and second in ERA (1.43) and strikeout percentage (37.0%) among Midwest League pitchers with at least 40 innings pitched.
