A suspect was arrested after he struck his elderly mother with a metal pipe and refused to comply with police, prompting a SWAT team standoff, Gurnee police said.
Maurice Freeman, 45, was taken to an area hospital following the incident Saturday evening. According to police, officers were preparing an arrest warrant for aggravated domestic battery as of Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 6 p.m. the day prior, Gurnee police responded to a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex in the 400 block of North Hunt Club Road near Washington Street. According to police, a 68-year-old woman was injured after her son struck her in the head with a metal pipe. The victim was taken to a local hospital and was expected to recover.
When police arrived on the scene, they tried to get Freeman to exi
