Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has used a taxpayer-funded trip to a UK Labour conference to praise left-wing leaders and progressive politics.

Mr Albanese attended the UK Labour conference with Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Sunday, drawing criticism for taking part in a domestic political event during an official diplomatic visit.

His attendance was framed as hypocritical in light of his previous criticism of former prime minister Scott Morrison for attending partisan political events in the US.

Mr Albanese said in 2021 that Mr Morrison had “hurt our alliance with the United States” by attending a Trump rally during an official visit to the US.
