The Prime Minister’s departmental staff abandoned Anthony Albanese’s final leg of his trip to the UK because of the political nature of his final engagement — headlining Britain’s annual Labour Party conference.
The Nightly can reveal that bureaucrats from the Department Prime Minister and Cabinet, who are supposed to be neutral as opposed to Prime Ministerial Office staff who are political, did not attend Mr Albanese’s last event in the UK.
They have been present for every other part of the Labor leader’s 11-day trip overseas and helped organise logistics and media arrangements.
But when Mr Albanese’s sizeable entourage filed into the main conference hall at Arena and Convention Centre Liverpool on Sunday afternoon local time and took their seats in the front row alongside former prime
