While the danger is not past, the National Hurricane Center says the impact of Tropical Storm Imelda on the Midlands is likely to be minimal.

The storm, expected to be named Tropical Storm Imelda Sunday, is expected to take a sharp turn to the east, away from the South Carolina coast.

According to the National Hurricane Center, "the risk of significant wind impacts along the Southeastern U.S. coast is decreasing, but interests in that area should continue to monitor the latest forecast updates.

The National Weather Service forecast for Columbia as of 10:30 p.m. Sunday predicts an 80% chance of rain and possible thunderstorms Monday and a 50% chance Tuesday, with new rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch each day, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.
