A killer acted with "grave disrespect" when he ended his new housemate's life and stuffed her body in a green waste bin, Victoria's Supreme Court has been told.

The mutilated body of Annette Brennan was found at the Epping waste management centre, north of Melbourne, on July 3, 2024.

The 67-year-old English teacher, who has been remembered as a kind friend, was killed about two days earlier by Stephen Fleming.

Fleming, who pleaded guilty to manslaughter, had only moved into the Coolaroo share house with Ms Brennan a month earlier after responding to an online advertisement.

Prosecutor David Glynn said an autopsy could not determine how Fleming had killed Ms Brennan, because her body was so badly damaged after being put through machinery in the rubbish truck at the tip.
