Self-described sovereign citizen Dezi Freeman is heavily armed and still on the run after allegedly shooting dead two police officers and injuring a third.

Victoria Police have given an update on the hunt for the 56-year-old man also known as “Filby” and revealed more details about how the shooting unfolded and his “distraught” family who made contact with police overnight.

Commissioner Mike Bush has confirmed police were still searching for Mr Freeman in a large area surrounding the town which is in the State’s north-east and about 300km from Melbourne.

“I can confirm that the suspect for this horrific event is still at large. Dezi Freeman - also known as Filby, a 56-year-old local, who is heavily armed, still at large,” he said.
