A British holidaymaker, who disappeared while trekking on the Greek holiday island of Karpathos, has tragically been found dead. The 55 year old man had been missing for over a month after travelling solo to the island for the first time.

His body was discovered on Saturday in the remote area of Epionia in the north of the island. His last known whereabouts were in the fishing village of Diafani back in June, where he was seen taking photographs on his mobile phone.

A local resident reported that the tourist had asked for directions to Vroukounda via the Lahamitis path. Emergency services were alerted when the man failed to return to his booked accommodation.

Firefighters, police, coast guard and volunteers, along with drones and sniffer dogs, scoured the area but found no trace of him.
