One of Manchester's most loved neighbourhood restaurants has announced the shock news that it is closing after 12 years in business, blaming rising costs and "insufficient government support".

The Laundrette in Chorlton has been rated the number one restaurant on Tripadvisor for Greater Manchester for the past five years, thanks to glowing reviews from customers.

But bosses took to their social media accounts on Monday to announce the restaurant, on Beech Road in Chorlton, will be closing "within the month".

They started an emotional post by saying: "Don't be sad it's over; smile because it happened".
