INDIANAPOLIS (WEVV) — Indiana Governor Mike Braun says he has allowed the execution to proceed for Roy Lee Ward.

A Monday morning statement from Gov. Braun says he's allowing the execution to proceed at the recommendation of the State Parole Board.

“After carefully reviewing the unanimous recommendation from the State Parole Board, I have decided to allow the execution of Roy Lee Ward to proceed as planned for October 10," Gov. Braun said.

Ward pleaded guilty to rape and murder in 2022 in connection with a 2001 incident involving a 15-year-old victim, Stacy Payne.
