Olympic swimming legend Leisel Jones has opened up about her deeply personal struggle with hair loss, revealing she has been losing “huge clumps” of hair and has undergone intensive treatment to combat the problem.

The gold medallist noticed her hair falling out in alarming quantities about 18 months ago, prompting her to seek immediate medical intervention.

“It’s something that is incredibly frustrating,” Jones told 7NEWS.

“As a woman we do pride ourselves on having beautiful luscious hair and I think once you start realising that your hair is falling out it is very concerning for someone like me.”
