Gov. Kathy Hochul is warning New Yorkers about scams targeting the state’s new inflation refund checks.

Scammers are sending text messages, voice messages, emails and direct mail to taxpayers stating that they must submit payment information to receive their refund checks, according to Hochul’s office. That’s false.

New Yorkers don’t have to do anything to get the checks. No sign-ups, registrations or applications are required.

The state is sending the checks based on information it already had on file from the 2023 tax year.
