MARBLEHEAD, Mass. —
A 12-year-old child is accused of setting two fires at a church in Marblehead, Massachusetts, officials said Monday.
On Sunday, a fire broke out during the 11 a.m. Mass at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church on Atlantic Avenue.
The monsignor said someone smelled smoke coming from the bathroom and called 911. The church was not damaged in the fire.
It was the second Sunday in a row that firefighters responded to smoke in the church during the 11 a.m. Mass. A similar incident happened on Sept. 21.
In each incident, small fires were reported and quickly contained, causing no permanent damage.
Both incidents were investigated by Marblehead police and fire departments, with assistance from the State Police Fire & Explosion Investigation Unit assigned to the state fire mars
