SYRACUSE, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) -- The Rome man engaged in a conspiracy to distribute child pornography was sentenced in federal court on Monday morning.

According to Acting US Attorney John Sarcone, 83-year-old John Kelly of Rome was sentenced to ten years in federal prison for his role in distributing child pornography on Monday, September 29. Kelly had pleaded guilty in May to the charges.

“It is beyond disturbing that an 83-year-old man would seek out depictions of the sexual abuse of our most vulnerable population," Sarcone said in a statement. "Thanks to the diligent work of HSI, the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, and New York State Police, this defendant will now be spending his twilight years in federal prison—where he belongs.”
