CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Charlotte officials have responded to the Department of Justice and Federal Transit Administration regarding safety changes along its public transportation after was stabbed to death on the Lynx Blue Line.
Lyles responds
Mayor Vi Lyles wrote back to the FTA on Sept. 25, detailing the increase in security measures.
Those include increasing funds for contracted security from $5.8 million in 2022 to $18.4 million three years later. That increase, Lyles wrote, allows Charlotte Area Transit System to nearly double the amount of contracted police.
The officers will be stationed at the Transportation Center in Uptown, the Rosa Parks and Eastland transit centers, adjoining sidewalks, and around the Blue Line.
