LAKE ARIEL, Pa. — The Wayne County Coroner's Office on Monday identified a public safety officer slain the weekend in a shooting at a gated community as 55-year-old Jose Duran, of Tobyhanna.

Duran was shot and killed Sunday afternoon in The Hideout, a gated residential community near Lake Ariel, by a man state police identified as Lucas Gartrell, a resident.

The 26-year-old alleged gunman killed Duran soon after Gartrell shot his parents, according to a criminal complaint filed late Sunday night.

Gartrell's mother and father, identified as Lisa and Robert Gartrell, survived the attack, according to court filings. They were flown to a hospital for surgery Monday evening, Capt. Michael Walsh, the commander of Troop R, said Sunday night. State police said they were in stable condition.
