COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ticket quotas are out in Ohio. Starting Tuesday, police departments cannot measure or reward their officers based on how many citations they issue.

“Our law enforcement officers are responsible for keeping us safe,” Strongsville Republican Sen. Tom Patton said when he introduced the bill. “They should not be saddled with the unreasonable burden of generating revenue for bureaucracies through ticket quotas.”

And the public agreed.

Supporters of Senate Bill 114 told lawmakers that quota systems turn officers into tax collectors, erode trust with the community, and make drivers feel targeted for minor infractions.
