SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- The San Francisco Giants have dismissed manager Bob Melvin following a disappointing season. Melvin had a two-year stint at the helm of the team, which was widely seen as a disppointment.
The Menlo Park-native had previously played for the Giants and as manager of the Athletics, led the Giant's then-cross Bay rivals to six playoff appearances. However, under Melvin, the Giants went 80-82 last season and 81-81 this season, missing out on the post-season.
Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey will now be tasked with picking a new manager for the team.
