MONROE, Mich. — Monroe police are investigating a stabbing that left a 54-year-old man injured early Sunday morning.

Officers were called to a Monroe hospital after the victim arrived at the emergency room with stab wounds to his upper back and torso, according to Monroe police.

Investigators say the man told officers he had left his home and was near a cemetery, using a flashlight to look around, when he was confronted by a male acquaintance described as wearing a black shirt and having neck tattoos.

The victim reported the man initiated an unprovoked physical altercation. After a struggle on the ground, the suspect fled and the victim realized he had been stabbed. The incident happened around 3:29 a.m. Sunday.

Detectives responded to the scene and are continuing the investigation.
