You expect wood in a corn dog because that’s what let’s you eat a corn dog without getting messy hands. You don’t expect wood in the batter, which is why The Hillshire Foods Company recalled 58 million pounds of corn dogs and sausage on a stick products.
“The problem was discovered after the establishment received multiple consumer complaints, five of which involved injuries,” the USDA’s recall notice said. “The Hillshire Brands Company conducted an investigation and determined that the wooden sticks entered the production process prior to product battering.”
