Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Tipton), a former pastor, has responded to the attack Sept. 28 at the Church of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township .

"Absolutely heartbreaking to see more attacks on houses of worship," Walberg wrote on social media. "This surge in targeted violence must come to an end. We will continue to pray for the victims and first responders."

The shooting and arson engulfed an LDS church in Grand Blanc Township, leaving at least five people dead (including the gunman) and eight others hospitalized as of 1 p.m. Sept. 29.
