The Vancouver Art Gallery has chosen West Vancouver-based Formline Architecture and Toronto’s KPMB Architects to design its new home on West Georgia Street.
The VAG said in a news release on Monday that they searched for months and pored over proposals from 14 Canadian architectural firms.
The new purpose-built gallery will be in Larwill Park at 181 West Georgia St.
“This decision marks an important milestone in the gallery’s renewed vision to create a destination for art and culture that reflects the diversity of its audiences,” said the VAG in a statement.
The gallery’s board of trustees chose the firms based on a recommendation from a selection committee made up of VAG leaders, artists, benefactors and construction experts.
