Winnipeg police have charged an 18-year-old man after a woman was sexually assaulted in an apartment building in the Maples neighbourhood on Sept. 27.

Police said the incident happened at about 10:20 p.m. when a woman in her 30s was followed into the lobby of a Mandalay Drive apartment building. The suspect, who was unknown to her, grabbed her in a sexual manner and then punched her several times before fleeing. The woman sustained minor injuries but did not require medical treatment.

Officers from the North and East District responded and located the suspect in front of the building. He was arrested without incident.
