September 30th marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

An event is being planned at Roseau River Anishinaabe First Nation to honour the day. Organizers say they are holding their annual walk, starting from Roseau Valley School in Dominion City and ending at Roseau River Anishinaabe First Nation. The walk starts at 10 am and is expected to take about 45 minutes.

Mick Friesen, who is part of a grassroots group of individuals known as Steps Toward Reconciliation, says there is a residential school memorial that participants will be walking to. At that site will also be a free lunch provided, followed by a powwow demonstration. The ceremony is expected to wrap up at around 2:30 pm.

Friesen says the importance of events like this one is relationships.
