TOWN OF DICKINSON, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) - Local law enforcement is once again donning pink in an effort to support breast cancer survivors.

For the third year, the Broome County Sheriff's Office is holding its Pink Patch Project during the month of October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The fundraising initiative was started by Corrections Officer Jennifer McPeek whose mother is a breast cancer survivor.

Over its first two years, 80 fellow officers have agreed to donate funds to acquire pink badges and pink uniform patches to wear.

McPeek says she's humbled by the level of support.

"I've heard stories since I've started this program with fellow officers' mothers and wives and people dealing with this disease. So, it's really a great thing that we can do to support our community,
