OATMEAL, Texas — In Burnet County, an unusual landmark reaches into the sky -- a 20-foot can of oatmeal.

The monument, which is actually a painted water tower, marks one of the county's oldest and most unique towns, Oatmeal, Texas.

Oatmeal is a small town near Bertram that has become a popular road trip destination because of its name and its iconic water tower.

"We're taking the breakfast tour," said Danny and Chrissa, two such tourists who stopped by the Oatmeal water tower for photo ops. "We're doing just some quirky trips around Texas, because it's a quirky place."

That "breakfast tour" includes stops in Pancake in Coryell County, the neighborhood of Bacon near Wichita Falls and of course, Oatmeal.

So, how did Oatmeal get its name? Funny enough, Oatmeal isn't named after the food.
