The Des Moines School Board is holding a special session Monday, Sept. 29, at 4:45 p.m. to discuss Superintendent Ian Roberts' license revocation and vote whether to place him on unpaid administrative leave.

Roberts, who has led Iowa's largest school district since 2023, was arrested on Friday, Sept. 26. Federal officials have said a court had issued a "final order of removal" in May 2024 for the deportation of the Guyana native and longtime U.S. resident.

The Des Moines School Board placed Roberts on paid administrative leave on Sept. 27, and the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners revoked his license on Sept. 28.
