Four teenage boys have been charged after allegedly driving a car into Melbourne’s Bourke Street Mall, before fleeing on foot in an attempt to escape police.

The incident began around 12.30pm on Monday when officers spotted a BMW driving erratically along the Eastern Freeway in Doncaster.

Police tracked the vehicle towards the city before it allegedly struck a pedestrian on Exhibition Street.

The BMW eventually came to a halt in the centre of Bourke Street Mall, where the four teenagers inside made a run for it.

Heavily armed officers caught the boys, aged 16 and 17, on the second level of Emporium.

A woman was taken to hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
