PULASKI COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) - One year ago, families, friends - and even strangers came together in the days after Hurricane Helene brought extensive flooding and tornadoes to our area.
Folks in Pulaski County are now reflecting on how far they’ve come in the year since.
Officials said lots of progress has been made in the last year. Claytor Lake has been cleaned, and they were able to get critical infrastructure repaired immediately.
“Every time a disaster happens, we learn from that, and we try and make improvements and changes and be prepared for the next time,” said Pulaski County Emergency Management Deputy Coordinator Richard Kos.
Kos said over 800 structures were affected by the storm, however they’re almost back to pre-disaster condition.
