SHEPHERD, Mont. – The Yellowstone County Sheriff's Office (YCSO) executed a search warrant on Thursday, September 25, at a home on 12 Mile Road near Shepherd as part of an investigation into animal neglect and cruelty involving several dogs.

A veterinarian accompanying the Sheriff's Office during the search assessed the dogs on-site and determined it was necessary to seize them due to health concerns, YCSO said in a release .

Investigators said a total of 42 dogs, including Newfoundland and Australian Shepherd breeds, were removed from the property.

The dogs, ranging from puppies to adults, were taken to a location where additional veterinary personnel were ready to provide care. Five of the dogs required advanced care and were taken to a local veterinarian hospital.
