TANGIPAHOA PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Gov. Jeff Landry called for faster clean-up of material from the Smitty's Supply explosion after seeing a video showing a contaminated Tangipahoa River.

Landry said he contacted the Environmental Protection Agency and the state's Department of Environmental Quality to fast track the clean-up effort.

"My commitment is to the citizens of this state, and especially those in Tangipahoa Parish, to make sure that that facility and the effects of that fire are cleaned up, and that that area is restored to the same way it was before the fire," Landry said.

The EPA revealed Smitty's Supply had millions of gallons of oil on site at the time of the explosion. It comes after oil and metals were found in water samples taken from the Tangipahoa River.
