MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- An employee of a home that cares for people with mental health challenges is accused of throwing hot water on a patient's back, causing severe burns.

Monoteus Brown, 33, was charged with aggravated assault and aggravated abuse of an elderly or vulnerable adult.

According to reports, on Sept. 17, officers responded to an aggravated assault in the 5300 block of South Rock Ridge Road at a home for people with mental disabilities.

When officers arrived, they met the manager of the home, who told police that a patient told her Brown had thrown boiling water on his back.

She told police the victim was transported to the hospital to be treated for severe burns. He spent a week in the hospital.

On Sept. 23, the patient told police that Brown threw hot water on his back.
