CINCINNATI (WXIX) - The City of Covington met with residents Monday to discuss the city’s housing shortage.

Covington Mayor Ron Washington says the city will need an estimated 900 new housing units by 2028. A lot of areas in Covington are seeing a housing shortage, but specifically, South of 12th St.

“Hard-working people, taxpayers, are finding it hard to find a place to live,” Mayor Washington said. “Here in the City of Covington, we have some 200 vacant properties and abandoned buildings. Our goal is to take that property and turn it into developers and non-profits to allow our community to reside in those homes. Currently, our taxpayers are taking care of those homes.”
