OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — On Monday evening, Oak Ridge community members and leaders came together for another meeting in the Scarboro community. This is the second community-led meeting since a block party in May led to nine people being shot and one stabbed.
"A lot of people got hurt on May 25th, and that's kind of what led to that and we want to talk about ways we can make our community safer," Chief Robin Smith of the Oak Ridge Police Department said.
City councilman Derrick Hammond said he thinks it's a matter of making sure the community understands what the definitive purpose of each meeting is.
Hammond said this second meeting was about opening dialogue to other issues community members might have, and also learning what has been done by police since the May scene.
