The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said more than six lakh lost and stolen mobile phones have been recovered through its Sanchar Saathi platform. Launched in May 2023, the service lets users block missing devices across all telecom networks. Once a handset is blocked, any attempt to use it with a new SIM triggers an alert for the owner and the local police. Officials said the system is now helping trace nearly one phone every minute.
Recoveries see sharp rise
Data shared by the ministry shows recoveries rose from 28,115 in January 2025 to 45,243 in August 2025, an increase of 61 per cent over eight months. Officials said the improvement reflects closer coordination between DoT field units and state and UT police, supported by regular training exercises.
